Welcome to Boneo Maze & Wetlands Centre, an outstanding eco-tourism complex situation on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria Australia. It is a ten year dream, built entirely by the owners Rod and Zelma Wright and family, designed to give all who visit an environmental experience and a lot of pleasant memories to take away.

Construction of the 2km boardwalk was the most difficult and physically demanding project under taken. All material was carried in and the posts where hand driven to a depth of approximately 1.2m, with a hand thumper. At the time of construction the area was totally under water, and all the work had to be done in waders. In fact, when the wetlands is in full flood, it is very similar to the Florida Everglades and is a magnificent site.

The wetlands are home to some endangered species like blue bill, freckled duck and the swamp skink which can be seen sunning themselves on logs on hot days along the boardwalk. Echidnas, wallaby’s and tortoises also live in the swamp, but since they are shy creatures, only a lucky few will see them.

Native fish, eel’s and golden perch, which where introduced by the previous owner, can be seen if you look over the waterways from the boardwalk.

The bird hide was constructed to give visitors an unrestricted view of Lake King. Many species of birds can be seen. It is large enough to accommodate a full classroom of children and would be ideal for art and environmental studies.

Our four acres of garden is the showpiece of the complex and is completely fenced to enable families to enjoy family picnics, and play a variety of games, which include chess, draughts, croquet, snakes and ladders, noughts and crosses, connect four and many other lawn games.

It is an ideal setting for weddings and photos and the diversity of trees and shrubs will enthrall garden lovers. The softness of the lawns is constantly commented on by our visitors.

International, interstate and local visitors, comments in our visitors book, what a great complex it is. We trust that you have a great day while visiting Boneo Maze and Wetlands Centre and visit us in the near future.

The 27 acre complex was purchased in 1994 and was part of the property settled by the King family in the 19th century and is the headwaters of the Tootgarook swamp which extends to Port Phillip Bay.

It was always the intention of the owners to build a tourist complex on the site and after 10 years of dedication and hard work, Boneo Maze and Wetlands was opened on 17th December 2004 to the public.

Everything visitors see was completed by the family, from planting of the mazes, construction of the pathways and boardwalks, creation of the 4 acres of garden, and the planning and construction of the tearooms, gift shop and car park.

World renowned botanist, Professor David Bellemy, when visiting the complex was “gob smacked” at the size and diversity of the plant life that exists on the property.
